Mongols. Ilkhanids. Hulagu, AH 654-663 / AD 1256-1265. Dinar (Gold, 29 mm, 2.51 g, 5 h), anonymous ‘qāʾān al-ʿādil’ type, [Amul], date effaced. Within a circle, ‘lā ilāha illā / Allāh Muḥammad / rasūl Allāh’ (‘There is no deity but Allah. Muhammad is the messenger of Allah’ in Arabic); illegible margin. Rev. Within a circle, ‘qāʾān / al-aʿẓam /al-ʿādil’ (‘The supreme and just Khan’ in Arabic); illegible margin. Album G2132. Extremely rare. Struck somewhat off center and with areas of weakness, otherwise, very fine.
